What is Somatic movement ?
Somatic Movement develops the sensory - motor nervous system. Learning through awareness
In Somatic Movement Education we do specific movements learning and observing the “means by which “ we do something, this helps us learn new and better patterns .
Somatic Movement is less about "doing" and more about "being" in movement. Rather than focussing on measurable performance and external achievements the somatic approach is more about learning how to move well based on the feedback received from the body.
Rather than working directly on the muscles in strength and stretch protocols, somatic movement works by educating the nervous system so that you can move more efficiently and appropriately . Somatic movement helps you to consciously reduce stress and tension in your body which helps to alleviate chronic pain and improve movement.
As well as improving movement and managing chronic pain, using a somatic approach to movement and exercise can help improve the relation we have with ourselves. A non judgemental and non competitive form of movement allows us to drop deeper and tune in and work with what is there , this allows learning and change to happen.
